May 2011

................

The Village at Waterman Lake celebrates twenty years of friendship and service in 2011. Said Village Partner, Diane Sangermano, "It's hard to imagine twenty years have passed since we opened our doors here at The Village at Waterman Lake. It's remarkable how much has changed since then, and yet so much remains exactly as it was when we founded The Village all those years ago."

So we are taking this opportunity to make this a very special celebration, all year long, for our residents, families, friends, our partners in the community, our Village Team, and the entire surrounding community in which we make our home and to whom we owe the success of The Village.

In April, our residents joined together for a gala 20th Anniversary Celebration of the friendship, joy, and overall vibrancy they experience, living at The Village.

On May 15 the surrounding community was invited to share in the festivities, with a luncheon, tours, music, and gifts for more than 300 guests. The appearances by Charlie Hall and his Ocean State Follies were equally as popular as the gourmet luncheon, and guests had the opportunity to stroll through our beautiful campus, talk to residents, and visit apartments as well.

In June we acknowledged our many professional colleagues, with whom we work constantly to provide the best services and experiences for our residents, their friends and families. Our Professional Breakfast on June 16 brought RI Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts and Catherine Taylor, Director of the RI Department of Elderly Affairs, together with more than 60 healthcare providers, social workers, hospital and clinic administrators, senior services providers and others in the larger community who serve our seniors on a daily basis.

As we continue through 2011, we will continue to celebrate on a daily basis through service and friendship, and continue to progress and evolve in exciting ways. Join us on this continuing journey!

"When I think about how far we have come," Diane said, "and reflect on where we are going, I feel a deep sense of purpose and trust that our good intentions and genuine concern for our residents and their families can continue to steer us well on the road ahead."

Executive Director, Oliver Harvey, was the afternoon's most vocal judge, expressing his opinions in an entertaining, Simon Cowell-esque manner, while finally agreeing with the majority, who voted Chef Joe Grenier's recipe the favorite.

Professional Seminar with Joan Teno

November 20, 2008

On Thursday, November 6th we hosted our first ever Guest Stay Open House. We have received overwhelmingly positive responses from residents' family and friends who have enjoyed our first class guest accommodations. This feedback prompted us to open our doors so that residents and families might view for themselves our premier guest apartments, which are available to their out of town guests. Residents and families enjoyed the chance to view the beauty and warmth of these fully furnished, expertly decorated rooms. (Along with our signature hospitality, guests can also enjoy breakfast or brunch served in our elegant lakeview dining room).

Free confidential memory screenings available on Tuesday, November 18 as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) designed to improve overall health maintenance and promote proper detection of memory problems. “We were proud to be a site for this year’s National Screening Day”, says Linda Martin, Director of Nursing for The Village, “Not only does this test help people determine whether or not they should begin exploring treatment options for memory loss, but this test also gives people a baseline against which to compare future test results if and when their memory loss progresses.”
